I am using ford #: F4TZ-12K073-C or IH #: 1876736C91 from Ford cam sensor 7.3 Power Stroke DI Turbo Diesel '94-'96.5 right now. Its been working great for me for some time now. I see the description doesn't say anything about 1997 trucks though.
first i did not run on the dyno in the correct gear (in order to get a 1:1 ratio) and second the number is questionable due to the fact the dyno was a mustange dyno.
I believe that that's the most recent CPS. It's got a picture at that link of the dark gray with purple O-Ring. That's the color scheme you're looking for.
Edit: Here's the part number you're looking for: F4TZ-12K073-C. It's the same part number as the one in the link I posted.

I have a 96 obs...Just to clarify I should be looking for grey not black or blue cps? I have a black one in there now and it is throwing a couple of codes.
Many people prefer the first generation black ones. I gave you a part number with a picture of the one I have. I'm not sure what else you want. People refer to it as "purple" but I believe that they're talking about the O-ring, not the sensor itself. Here is a link to the old one. I'll go ahead and include a picture of it:
For the sake of comparison, here is the newest one, which is what I'm running:

Joseph,
Thank you. I read somewhere that someone is using a blue cps. I am gonna get the grey one and see if it clears up some of the codes.
By "Blue", they were most likely referring to the O-ring color on the newest generation of CPS, like the one in the picture I posted. That's what I'm thinking, at least. Many people run the old style CPS and carry a newest generation one in the glove box with a 10mm wrench as a spare for when the old style one fails.
Good luck, and I hope you successfully sort out your CPS issues. Let us know how it goes.
