i have a 1988 bronco. the front end has been getting wierd on me lately i have replaced sway bar linkage bushing, sway bar bushing i have lifted it on a rack to check the ball joints they are solid but still any speed over 40 the front passenager wheel wobals bad after hiting a bumb in the road. and the front tires tow in when i go in reverse. with a popping sound when going over uneven ground in reverse. can anyone help
thank you but i have checked those items as well like said in previous question it has a knocking or a rather pop in the front while going over a bumb or uneven ground
Not sure how uneven of ground you are going over but have to checked to make sure your rubber bumpers on the frame are still there? the ones that keep the axle from hitting the frame? i would get noise with a ranger i had once in a while because it was missing one of those bumpers on the frame. easily overlooked though, didnt notice it was gone for a long time lol.
As for the wobble, how did you check your tire? did you have it spun on a balancer? broken belts hide very well. maybe just unbalanced or possibly dented rim depending on how hard you hit the bump. Just a thought.
i was referring to leaving the drive way or somthing that small even though there is a six inch lift wife demands i stay on road until we have it fully operational as for the wobble its not that kind of wobble it is more any time i drive faster the 30 to 40 miles an hour the passenger side act as if it would be the ball joint but as i said before it has been checked both by myself and a mechanic
How old are the shocks? Leaking passenger?
Radius arm bushings installed correctly and fully tight on pass side?
Is the passenger wheel tightened evenly and not in a bind or crooked?
Was the truck aligned after lift install? Could be Caster way out making it like a shopping cart if too negative
Axle pivot mount on the passenger half of the TTB axle is known to shear under severe abuse. This leaves the passenger side of the axle held under the truck by the spring, radius arm and drive axle. the inboard end of the TTB axle housing is free to bobble around under the truck causing the terrible vibrations anywhere from 35-65 mph depending upon the age and wear on the rest of the suspension components.
Now remember, the passenger half of the TTB axle has its axle pivot point on the DRIVER'S side of the frame.
There are a LOT more than just ball joints holding the TTB axle in place under the truck. Check this and BOTH axle pivot bushings while you are at it along with radius arm bushings (2), ball joints (4), shock bushings (4 or 8 if you have quad shocks up front), and inner and outer tie-rod ends (2 each).
thank you very much i have came to the conclusion that the axle pivot mounts are my issue the bolts on the mounting brackets where very loose and the pivot mount bushing are loose in the brackets so again thank you all very much for the input
