Those codes won't come up if you read the codes at an auto parts store. They are not capable of reading transmission codes. You need someone with a high end scanner, and the auto parts stores don't use them.
"IF" the check engine light is on, then YES a generic scanner will give you a code. BUT also i do agree that it won't give you a "specific" code. it will more than likely give the same on that mine came up with, a P0720, which is just a general problem code for a transmission malfunction.
if the check engine light is NOT on, then yes you'll need a more in depth scan tool to retrieve the codes.
