well detroit locker is about the strongest you can get. and if you don't mind a bit of a rough ride through corners if your gassing it...you'll be fine.
Why not buy a mini spool? You can do the whole job for $50 including the spool and all the gear lube and gaskets to finish. W/ a spool you don't have that nasty backlash and all that engaging/dis-engaging that you get w/ a detroit. Not to mention you could put in a rear mini spool and a front lock-rite for less than the price of one detroit.

Absolutely! Here's a picture of a mini-spool next to the spider gears and the carrier. That mini cost me $26 new from e-bay, including shipping. I installed it myself and it wat the first time I ever saw the inerts of a dif.
that is a great pic I'm sold thanks for all your help does e-bay carry alot of these spools is that my best place to look first or best bet is at the local parts store?
I see these often on e-bay. They may not be the "best on the market", but mine hasn't failed yet and I beat the crap out of it on the trails.
Some things you should know about mini-spools before you put one in. They give you a solid rear axle so your tires will turn at the same speed around corners. Meaning one tire will skid. If you're on ice/snow, this can be bad. So, you'll have to get used to cornering in these conditions.
Also, you'll have to count the splines on your axle so you get the right spool. You'll either have 28 or 31. Mini-spools can be hard on the axle splines, too. When you turn, all of the torque is on the splines and the spool. I'm not saying you'll wreck the axles, just that they will be more stressed than normal.
Also, see if you gan get the "hardened" pin. That's the pin that goes thru the mini-spool and the carrier, holding the two together. I used the pin from the spider gears, but plan to get the better one someday, just in case.
you will like the min i spool. i have mine in for about a year and it kicks butt in the mud and on the trial. tires wear a little faster with it in but it is well worth it. i bought mine on ebay for under 25 bucks incuding shipping and it took about 2 hours to install from start to finish.
Yes - a mini (spool or locker) only replaces the spider gears inside the diff carrier. A full (spool or locker) replaces the whole carrier and is MUCH stronger & dependable for any vehicle.
This thread has links to lots of info on differentials and one shows the installation of a mini-locker, which is very similar to a mini-spool.
I ordered a mini from a web site a couple of weeks ago. It was only $22.50 for the spool and an extra $9.75 for the steel pin. Hopefully it is as easy to install as Kevin says, because like him, I have never repaired anything inside of a diff.
sweet truck tucker I had the same truck but only had 32/11.5/15s but let me tell you that truck went everwhere, it also pulled out many of chev's with lifts and hp small blocks. awesome truck and awesome pics.(ordering a minispool from e-bay great deal)
