np203 diff...open or LS?

I've heard it both ways on this forum...my truck acts as if it must be limited slip..if the back spins then the front bites and vice-versa. Does anyone want to weigh in on this subject?

The NP-203 is a chain driven full time 4WD transfer case. It delivers power to both the front and rear axles constantly and is only shifts between 4 high and 4 low. Limited slip refers more to axles in general. You should be able to do a search for "limited slip" or "traction loc" and find any info you need.

I know the 203 is a full time case. I also know it incorporates a differential to allow for differences in axle speed between front and rear. I've heard it said by people who didn't particularly care for it that if the front or rear axle lost traction that all the power would be tansferred to the spinning axle, as in "open diff". My truck seems to transfer power away from the spinning axle to the one that has traction. That wouldn't happen if the incorporated differential was "open", would it?

Neither would it happen if it were a limited slip. The only device which can do that is a torque-proportioning diff like a Torsen or a Detroit Tru-Trak and I guarantte you that the 203 does NOT incorporate that technology.
