i have a 2005 f 250 Diesel King ranch with AFE intake and MBRP Turbo back exhaust. i have no other mods and the rest of the truck in stock. Motor has 137,000 Km (85,000 ish miles)
just bought truck and installed intake and exhaust for better fuel economy.
After installing the exaust the truck started to idle randomly. Truck idles up a few 100 rpm, quikly then back to normal, power on exceleration seams not right either.
You will likely hear this from more than just myself, but... the stock air filter system is the best one available. It breathes as much air as your motor will need in stock configuration and filters that air better than any after market filter can. As far as the idle fluctuation, IDK... do you have any exaust leaks? Perhaps the MAF sensor is dirty. If you used an oiled type air filter, there is a chance that some of the oil has passed the filter and adhered to the MAF sensor, thereby giving it the best possible situation for collection of dirt. Just a thought.
thanks guys, the problem started after i installed the exhaust and the truck ran great with just the intake. i will try putting the intake back to stock and see what happens but i never had this problem till after installing the exhaust.
i kept the cat in when i had the aftermarket exhaust installed due to stiff regulations with pollution, think that could have anything to do with it?
i read the post about the back presure senor failure and this sounds alot like the idle problems i have been having so im going to start there. im not an idiot with tools but im not a mechanic, im also new to this site. is there anything i can do myself or should i replace it.... is it expensive?
This may sound like a stupid question, but does your truck in fact have a MAF sensor? You state that you have a 2005 model year truck. Early 2005s were equipped with a MAF. Late build 2005s weren't. 2006 and 2007 model years saw the return of a MAF sensor. Go figure.
Where abouts in Ontario are you located, by the way?
Check for codes, when my 350 eats an ICP sensor the first symptom is a funky idle next is low power on acceleration and then then the surge at constant throttle sets in.
