68 f100 running problems

ok so here it is. I just got a 68 f100. pretty rough shape but it runs. When i went to look at it the guy had it running a drove it around a little. a week later when i brought it home we couldnt get it to run cause half the sylenoid was missing. we bought a new one and replaced it but to start the truck we still had to bypass the sylenoid. It would run as long as we were bypassing it but it was eating up the starter. We are thinking its the wiring to the ignition cause we arnt getting any lights or anything when we turn the key on.

The question i have now is what do you all think? wiring? or could it be something more simple? Oh and before i forget the engine is a 302 auto tranny out of a 71 e100. at least thats what i was told.

please post me your replys on here and if you have any schematics or diagrams then email me so i can get them faster.

time is money in my case. have to keep it in storage till it runs so i can get it tagged. neighborhood rules state that the vehicle has to be running and tagged...otherwords, sooner the better. Also if anyone has spare parts they can give me or sell me let me know by email.

found a wiring schematic for it but the only minor problem is that it has that 71 302 out of an e100 van and so the schematic changes a little bit but its basicly the same concept right? btw havent started on the wiring yet. this is just a thought.

Have you tried messing with the gearshift at all, I just bought a 71 for 260 dollars, and to get mine to start I have to push the gearshift against park to get the neutral safety switch to release, otherwise it does exactly what you are describing

no didn't try that and didnt have to. i redid my wiring today..well didnt replace it but fix the shorts in stuff for now, anyways it solved the problem and now all thats left before i tag it and put it on the road is rebuilding the carb and brakes. hope to have it done in 15 days for my wifes birthday cause im going to take her to a drive in theatre in it lol. anyway it runs now but dies when i give it gas so i think its the power valve. not sure if its called that on a car/truck but it is on my motorcycle lol.
