a friend gave me a 1978 f150. the vin says it came with a 351w, but when i look under the hood it sure looks like a big block to me. i looked on the block for casting numbers hopeing for some help, it has "D7TE A2 B" on the passenger side the charecters are upside down. on the drivers side it has "28" . anybody have a clue? i would really apreciate any help. thanks
If it is a 4x4 then it is a 351M/400 if it is a 2wd you could have a few more choices but I would be willing to bet it is an "M" (you know modified to drink more gas )hope tihs helps.
Have a look in my gallery at old blue - it has a 351m (400 block) - and there is an engine picture - have a look and compare.
You can also look at my good truck's 302.
Count the number of bolts on the valve covers - this is another indicator and off the top of my head, I can remember how it works. Better ask MI1LLION!
Hope this helps some.
