1965 N600 with 15,000 lbs. capacity rear axle could have 15" x 4" or 15" x 4 1/2" rear brakes.

The wheel cylinders are different (there are 4: 2 uppers / 2 lowers per side), so you'll need to determine which size the brake shoes are.
Was finally able to measure the rears today, and am looking at 15 X 4 1/2"

Hopefully Miller will have these also, so I can make one bulk order.

Thanks again Bill

Disc wheels, but...

It's a good thing you posted the Warranty Plate, because the F3 AXLE code decodes to an Eaton two speed with a 15,000 lbs. capacity axle.

I cannot make out the 3rd digit of the code, but this only applies to the front axle.

Good Morning

I recently purchased a 1980 F700, looked online for any VIN decoder information and came up on this site.

VIN : K74NVJB0940

It's suppose to be one owner so hoping to find build sheet somewhere in truck, but if you could give me any insight as to the VIN.

Thank you

VIN when decoded doesn't tell you much. Post all the codes from the Certification Label, glued to the left door face below the latch.

K74 = F700 (Diesel).

N = Detroit model DDA 990N or DDA 990T 8.2L (501 cid) 8 Cylinder Diesel.

V = Kentucky Truck Assembly Plant.

JB0940 = 1980.

Hi, again, Bill! I'm still working out the issues with the brakes on my 1957 F600. The rears are the 15" x 4" shoes/drums with the two wheel cylinders each. The axle is an Eaton two speed and the axle code on the data plate lists it as 5.83 8.11HD. My question is: are there supposed to be two different length shoe return springs? My shop manual for this truck seems to show a longer and a shorter spring which would make sense because the distance between the upper hole in each shoe to the spring pin is different from the same measurement for the lower spring. The diagram I am looking at is on page 7-10 of the shop manual in case that helps. When I took the brakes apart all 8 springs (4 per wheel) were exactly the same length but I do not think that this is correct. As always, thank you so much for all you do for all of us!!

Thanks, Bill, for that super-fast service! At least I have a part number now to begin my search for these! I think the guys out here at Trans West Ford are getting sick of me and my silly old 11 digit VIN! Let me know if any of your magic sources might have stock on these critters.

Trans West Ford in Fontana, I used to know one of the parts guys there, but it's been so long ago, I cannot recall his name.

I do remember that prior to working there, he was the parts manager of Fair City Ford in Pomona.

B7Q-2296-A =

BOWMAN SALES & SERVICE in Bowman ND has 5 = 701-523-3257.

NOS PARTS LTD in Waxahachie TX has 9 = 972-937-2201.

KAMA OBSOLETE PARTS in East Bethel MN has 12 = 763-434-0123.

CARPENTER NOS OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC has 12 = 800-476-9653.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 22 = 800-543-4959.

Thanks so much, Bill! I really appreciate all of your help getting my truck in tip-top shape! I have a 1985 F250 that was purchased new at Ford of Upland and a 2005 Expedition that I bought from Colley Ford over in San Dimas. I try to keep 'em all working hard! Trans West is a BIG dealership now as is Sunrise Ford, also in Fontana. This is definitely Ford country over here!

When your '57 was new, there were far more dealers than there are now. Two in San Berdoo & Riverside, one in Redlands, Colton, Glendora, Rialto.

L.J. Snow Ford was in Colton, I stopped there once, buying all the obsolete parts. Upstairs in the attic was a projector with all the training films used in the 1930's.

When I drove out the rear driveway, across the street was a Ford obsolete parts store. You would think that someone from that obsolete store would have looked, but they were 'asleep at the switch!'

Speaking of Ford obsolete, have you been to Early Ford Store in San Dimas? It's located in the original 1916 Ford dealership building.

Located in the old downtown area across from the RR tracks.

I sure have, Bill! Some of my buddies have Model A's and I go there with them from time to time. What a neat "time capsule" kind of place!
