87 2.9l problems

I recently bought an 87 Bronco 2, I bought it cause on the test drive it ran great! When its in the cold start mode it runs perfectly fine, once it heats up about 5 minutes down the road it starts spittin and sputtering and has no power, just bogs down and will sometimes pick up for a bit, its not a huge deal when driving in town but on the highway it won't even do speed limit unless you're going down hill.
Anyone have this problem before or know where I should start looking?

Do you have to add coolant every other day? It may have a cracked head as 2.9s were notorious for that. Once they get warmed up, the crack lets coolant into the engine. If you are loosing coolant, I would start with a pressure test of the system.

the coolant is full and there is none in my oil, i know these motors are also bad for lifters as i have replaced them in a ranger before, would that cause it to bog out and be gutless? i'm kind of thinking not just because of how good it runs when its on cold start mode
