Changing to towing mirrors:is it easy?

i have the regular style side mirrors, and wanted to switch them out to the towing ones. is it as simple as unbolting the old ones and bolting in the new ones?

Welcome to FTE SuperDuty Guy! Yep, pretty much, pull off door panels, 10mm socket iirc, add a beer per side, all is good!

-remove the red reflector from the door panel and remove the 10mm bolt
-remove bulb socket if behind reflector
-remove the window button switch simply pull it up and remove the 10mm bolt
-remove the black cover for the mirror bolts above the door panel simply pull off
-easily pull away moisture barrier and unplug mirror socket
-unbolt mirror and don't drop them! use a deep socket also
-bolt on tow mirrors
put everything back in reverse order, door panel uses hole clips that slid into the door so you pull it up slightly and then off the door, and make sure you get all the holders back in when you reinstall. I misses one and the door rattled like crazy till i got them all into the holes

Before you pull the old mirrors off and out, tape a long string or wire to the end of the old connector and allow it to fish its way through the door. Remove tape and then attach it to the connector on the new mirror. Pull the string to help you fish the new connector through the door.

A lot easier to pull through. You'll see what I mean if you didn't do that on the first one.

Good luck.

You'll need to remove the door speakers as the plug connector is behind it. It's a simple task and no need to pull wire up with the old connector as gravity will have the new plug fall down to where you can easily see and grab it. Now if upgrading to the new '08 + type of mirror (highly recommend them!), you'll have more work to do and wires that'll need to be pulled, soldering, etc. A lot more effort and work involved but we'll worth it, just for the safety benefits of them alone.

I was also wondering are they plugs in the door already that will plug in to the tow mirrors that have the lights on them? The 99-05 mirrors I mean or do I have to splice into the signal/running lights etc?
