Wow, my father-inlaw was following me driving my 01 F250 and he did not look at the temp. It over heated, I took it to my friends shop and found out the block was cracked and so was both heads.
At the shop he had a fresh rebuilt 7.3 out of a 02, he told me the guy that bought it did not pay it off and had no intintion of paying it off. He said if I pay off the balance and pay for the install I could have it. He chargeed me $3,500 total. It took him 3 days to do the swap and I pick it up today!
I just feel so lucky to have it back on the road without paying a arm and leg.
Good question! Although I assume in the new engine install almost any all cooling problems would be fixed, it sure needs to be known before you drive it again.
I have no idea my father-inlaw was driving, I'm guessing it might of been the thermostat also he said the water pump wasn't working. When I'm driving my truck I watch the gages I wish he would of been paying attition. When he drained the oil there was at least a gallon of antifreeze in the block he said. I went by the shop last night on my way home and he had the new engine in and running. He was going to button it up today and drive it to make sure it doesn't overheat and everything is working properly.

In my book, Mr. father-in-law should be footing most of the bill, not you. Sure, some mechanical reason started this ball rolling, but it could have been MUCH less of a job. But then, this is why I don't let other people drive my truck. Sorry for the grief you've suffered but glad you're sorted.

Thanks, I usually I don't let anyone drive my truck. But I was in a bind...it was him drive my truck or my G35 that I was picking up from the shop,
How did he confrim anything was cracked without dissasembly? its one thing for a head gasket, but you have to remove the head to check for cracks.
but on the other side of the coin all that coolant into your oil and your hpop and injectors it is probly a safer bet to slap in the fresh motor
They removed the head on the passenger side were I saw the coolant coming out of when he was driving and confirmed the cracked head and block, while they had the engine out they also checked the other head and it was cracked also. If it was only a head gasket he would of charged me $700, I figured just go ahead with the new engine because it was only $3500 complete. I was very lucky that my timing with taking it to his shop and he had the engine ready to go.
