I have $200 to spend and wonder what I should do with it?? I need to charge my a/c...and my power steering pump has got a small leak in it. So I was going to replace my power sterring pump..what else should I do??? I have a 78 351 m with c6 transmission. Thought about going to high intake air filter??
Get rid of the stock air cleaner assembly if your not subject to emissions. An open element air cleaner and filter are worth a few HP and a bit better throttle response. I recommend a 14"x3" K&N and a Ford-specific, Hi-Po air cleaner lid and base from Mustangs Plus.
Cost: About $60 total
It's summer so charge and AC and you'll likely drive it more. I have no idea how much it costs cuz only my 01 PT, 01 SC, and 71 have AC.
PS leaking? Park in the street or on dirt until it's fixed.
Tint the windows. $25
A fisheye mirror for the passenger side... $2.
Lil Trees air freshener...$1
ok if I go with the open element air cleaner ...what do I do with all the vacuum lines? and the cans that look like they should hold pork-n-beans? can I get rid of all that?? do I also need to get the little breather filter that goes on the valve cover?
The vaccum lines on the air filter housing should just operate the valve on it. I put one on my 400 and just capped the vac line feeding that. The rest of the vac lines and the PVC shouldn't be attached to that. For the breather filter I got a new grommit and a 90 degree elbow, and a piece of hose. The filter housing had a knockout on the bottom piece and a plastic nipple to attach the hose to. Put a 90 degree fitting on that too. Then the air filter acts as the breather filter. I just picked up a cheapo one from O'Rielly's cause my original filter housing was trashed since the PO stuffed a way too big filter in it.
I just replaced my stock air cleaner and put on an high performance edelbrock cleaner. I have a 351m and when I took off the air cleaner I had a hose attached to the valve cover which I assume I can put a oil breather. I bought one but it is to high..It is for a 1 1/4 hole.. It hits my heat blower and I can not put it in. Its in the back left hand corner. The PCV valve and oil filler is in the front right hand corner. Right now its just a hole...The edelbrock cleaner came with an adapter to hook a hose to the valve cover but I think Id rather go the other route..What do I need to do? I also assume I can not drive it that way until I place something in the hole?

Relocate the PCV to the passenger side valve cover with its corresponding hose to the carb's base plate or manifold fitting. The incoming air/fuel mixture creates a vacuum on the PCV to draw out the crankcase gases. Apply some vacuum (suck on the hose) to make sure the PCV opens.
Now that we have the "exhaust side" of the crankcase taken care of, we can work on the "intake side" of the crankcase. If the rig is not subject to emissions, you can run an open breather (also referred to as an open emissions system). If you would like to have filtered air, there are breathers will a hose nipple on its side or, perhaps in your case, a plastic elbow which plugs into the top of the breather, connects to a hose, and the other end of the hose connects to the air cleaner base on the clean side of the air filter (referred to as a closed emissions system).
Your Edelbrock sould have come with a fitting, gasket, and either screws or little machine bolts & nuts. Use thread locker on it because you do not want foreign objects going down the carb.. very bad things can occur if that happens. VERY BAD.
Breathers come either as push-on or twist-on. You can get an adapter (Mustangs Plus PN 10848) to convert a twist-on style opening to a push-on. In fact, I suggest you go to MustangsPlus.com and take a look at the breathers they offer.
to move the pcv to the other side I understand but the hose is not just a hose. part of it is metal tubing that extends from manifold/carb and then has a hose attached to it that extends to pcv .. how do I remove that tubing and replace with just a hose?
