Hi guys. I am ready to lift the cab off my '66 f250. The cab is bare (no glass, doors, interior) except for the heater box and instrument panel.
I found this pic on this site and wondered if you all thought it was safe to lift this way w/o damage to the cab roof? I'm sure it probably worked fine for whoever did it but I want to be sure first.
I don't have the ability to get enough people here to lift it off the frame. I want to raise it just high enough to pull the frame out from under it and then lower it down onto a rolling wood frame I've built.
That is one was, or bolt a chain to the seat bolts and a strap around the front of the cab and hook to the chain and lift with your cherry picker. I slid the cab off my 66 using 2 2x6 boards and pushed it off on to a trailer.
Or just get a friend and pick it up. Me and buddy of mine flip the cab around quite frequently pretty easily. Its not light, but its not that heavy either.
The way you posted will probably work just fine though and be simple enough that you can do it yourself.
I had my wife help me. I used 2 large tie down straps. I put them through the cab in a cross pattern starting at the hood hinge and going through across the dash out the back window down the back of the cab an the end hooked under the step in theopposite corner. Put the engine crane hook where the two straps crossed in the cab when it stated to lift I tied the loose ends around the straps and hook to keep it from sliding and my wife kind of was there to keep it from spining but Im pretty sure I could have done that myself when I found out how easy it lifted off. I also put a 2x4 across the back of the cab under rear window to spread the pull across the whole cab as without the rear windo in the rear cab is somewhat weak. Lowered it onto a homemade dolly.
No sorry I see Im a little late with my response. I should have though. Once I figured out how to set up the straps so the cab would balance it was cake. One person job. Ill get pics when it goes back one.
Buzz44 - THat's funny because I did the same thing. I got it strapped up and removed and set on my temp frame and then realized I didn't get any pics! Guess I was worried it might fall. lol
On my bed, I also used my cherry pickers, put two of my 10k two straps around the middle tied down support on the bed sides (inside the bed) and then used to small straps going to the front tie down spot as a support and lifted it right off.
