I'm about 12 hrs away from making an 8 hr drive to go look at a 6.0 PSD Excursion (I know this isnt the Ex forum, but alway more info here)... What are your opinions on a 6.0 w/ 110,000 miles, with a good Car-Fax report? (only thing I saw was an Injector driver replacement at 38,000 mi) I have a 7.3 F250 and love it.. just don't know the pros-cons to a 6.0,, other than high press oil pump issues, injector failure, and head gaskets and poor head bolts on the '03-'04's.... What do you all expect the life span of this engine to be if properly maintained?
Any suggestions appreciated..
I know of a couple of 03 motors with 420K+ miles on them and no major issues. I know of one that the first failure was a water pump at 380K and had never been to the dealership for anything. Still had all original injectors and pilot injection flash. It was a work truck that pulled a 4K trailer every day. Those are exceptions to the rule and contrary to popular belief, babying these motors is actually detrimental to them. I'm not talking about running their pants off every time you leave a stop light, but you can't putter around and be scared it's going to break every time you start it either.
For the excursion get the VIN # and ask your local dealer to pull an Oasis on the vehicle to get the history. In my experience Car-Fax is "OK" but doesn't tell the real story.
