460 backfire and misses
Ok so i have a 77 f150 with a 460 in it a couple of months ago i was driving to work and got half way on my 15 mile trip and the truck started backfiring consistently thru the carb. i figured it was a lifter so i parked it there until i had time to mess with it. well last week i put my two weeks in at the place i worked so i had to move it off their property and decided to try to drive it to my parents housw which was about 9 miles away on the way there it was doing the same thing up until i hit a railroad tracks and then it stoped backfiring and ran decent until i would get it to about 2500 rpm and then it would have a slight miss and i noticed a lifter tick. i had a set of lifters that i was going to put it in but since it stoped backfiring thru the carb im not sure it needs it... Any Suggestions???? Oh tonight i put a quart of risoline in it to sww if the lifter noise would quiet down with no success. Any help would be much aprecciated..

I'm not sure if your '77 has the same exhaust crossover at the back of the heads that my '87 has, but a leak in this pipe or at the check valve VERY closely mimics a lifter tick.
There may be a bunch of debris in your float bowl that was dislodged by the jolt over the train tracks.
