I have a 94'Aerostar shorty, with a 3.0L,auto, a/c,2wd.It has rear ABS.The idiot light for the ABS came on,so I checked the brakes, which were'nt bad,but I changed them anyway.Afterwards the light is still on and will not shut off.Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated. The truck still runs and looks great at 172,000.Also any tips on changing the passenger side rear spark plug. Thanks, Walt
This may seem like a silly question, but did you check the brake fluid level? The ABS light WILL come on if the fluid gets too low, and it WILL stay on until the fluid level is brought up to the proper amount.
If thats not it, then I do not know what the problem is...never had anything but the fluid thing I mentioned above...
The older style master cylinder caused many RABS problems, but you have the newer style. Your problem is likely in the RABS valve unit from a malfunctioning solenoid/valve.
Do a search on this forum using the search button at the top of this page (the one between FAQ and Home). Type in RABS or ANTILOCK for keywords - you have to use at least a four letter word or the search will not work).
In the meantime, locate the RABS control unit on the driver's side of the transmission hump and unplug the connector for 5 minutes, then reconnect and see if this clears the light. If not, the problem is like the hydraulic valve unit.
Thanks for the info aerocolorado.I'll give that a try tomorrow if its not raining. The brakes work just fine. It's just annoying having this light on all the time.Have a great day. Walt
Does your speedometer work? I swapped my rear ABS axle out for a 4.10 posi non abs and the damned light never goes off along with my speedo not working. I've been thinking about cutting the wire to the light or taking ou he bulb, whichever it takes to shut it off,
There is a magnetic float switch in the brake fluid reservior that went bad on my aerostar. I had constant light. unplug wire from reservior and jumper if light goes out its the switch. replace the whole reservior . it was 35 bucks from the stealer and simple to change.
