My brake upgrade

Just thought i'd share, as this is one thing i don't see to much of on here. Anyway I had a drivers front caliper start sticking on me and it ended up chewing up the rotor and pads pretty good, and the rest of the brakes were alright, but i wasn't just going to change one corner. Before i forget the truck is an 08' f-150, 5.4, 4wd extended cab. I have a 2.5 rancho strut leveling kit, air bag in the rear and a set of 35x12.50 general grabber tires on some 18" ultra motorsports wheels.

So because of the 35's and the fact that i do pull a trailer (about 7000lbs total weight) a fair bit in the summer i decided to search for better pads and rotors to hopefully get a little better performance out of the brakes with hopefully a big boost in resisting brake fade. I found summit racing has the power stop pads and rotors for sale for a good price, and they offered everything as a set for 400 bucks for all 4 corners, done deal.

So i swapped out the bad caliper, did some paint work on all calipers and the front knuckles and here is the end result:

Initial impression are good, its a lot smoother then the stockers, and about 5% shorter stopping distance from 60mph, but thats a seat of the pants feel after a quick test drive, the biggest thing i noticed was how smooth they are. So time will tell and i will update here over time. The other thing that i'm hoping this helps with is no more brake dust on the front wheels lol. Hope this helps someone out.

Are the pads ceramic or semi-metallic? Semis will put off a lot of dust as do so ceramics. Wagner T/Q ceramics put off very little dust. I put the same rotors on My wifes Civic Hybrid with Monroe Ceramics and the dust is worse than the OEM pads. no problem with the rotors even if they are made in China. It appears that all brands are made there now.

Subscribing to this thread. I've been curious about those rotors and pads for a while now. Would love to know your impressions as you continue to put miles on them.

pads are cermanic, supposed to be less dust then the factory pads, then again i had a stuck caliper so the dust was really bad on the drivers s side.

Just thought i'dpost up a quick update, to date i've logge about 4000 miles on these brakes (had a good road trip for a vacation). I couldn't be happier. there is ZERO brake dust, and any that may just be there isn't noticable, so big plus for me (or anyone that likes shinny wheels). The perfermance is hard to judge, as i haven't done a lot of stop and go and i have yet to tow anything with it, but i have noticed better resistance to brake fade, and the dust is exiting out through the slots as intended (minor dust buildup int he slots).

So i would recommend this setup to anyone in need of brakes for their truck.

Good to hear the positive update. I may go that route on the rear when I do them later. Paint job is great too.

I upgraded my brakes with the Power Stop cross drilled rotors and Akebono ceramic pads, and painted the calipers only. Posted on the forum. Over 40k miles on that and still doing great. Have not checked pad thickness, but very happy with the upgrade. Low dust too!
