Plan of Attack

Ok so im not quit sure how to tackle some of the rust on the floors of my truck. The foor boards are pitted bad and in some spots the pitting goes through the floor. I really dont want to have to replace the floor boards if i can avoid it. can i just cut out the areas where it has rusted through and just weld in new metal? and how would you guys approach the rusted walls shown in the pics?

grind the **** out of what you can, then use something acid based to attack the rest. dont worry, the other folks will post pic's of their cabs w\ no floors, so yours looks ok, just grind hard, not w\ sand paper, but an actual grinder, use saftey glasses , dust mask, ear plugs, gloves (almost cut my thumb off one nite) then finish w\ the acid based neutralizer. nobody likes to call it acid, nowadays its called "alkaline" hope this helps, show us your progress

I would just patch in sections of new metal where needed, no need to replace the whole floor.

Any suggestions on a good neutralizer?

and jhooch i know its not bad, its the corners of the walls that are weird. the passenger side is because the cab corner wore through in a couple spots and let water in. im not sure whats goin on with the driver side yet

I would use por15 its thick and will cover up the little holes and will prevent more rust from happening.

I would do this, but if your handy with a mig welder or know someone who is, you may be to weld all of these shut, then POR15 the entire floorpan, top and bottom.

im pretty good with a mig (practiced for a year in a hs metal shop after a 6 mos each of oxy welding and arc) and just picked a mig up for myself. Ive got a fresh can of POR 15 from doing the rest of the floors just wasnt sure if i should cut out all the pitting or just where it rusted thru

I used a grinder (grinding wheels on an electric drill) followed by POR-15 epoxy putty to fill in pinholes (no larger than pencil thickness) followed by Rust Bullet for the entire pan.

Perhaps the epoxy putty isn't the best method, but I had some, and can't weld (yet).
