I need to get a new rear driveshaft for my truck (slip yoke that goes into transfer case and then 32" driveshaft that U-bolts onto rear differential) and the guy who usually gets me parts I need for my truck told me that they only made the specific driveshaft for my truck for one year only.
My truck is a 1990 Reg. Cab Short Box 4x4 351w w/E4OD... Is he right?? I thought that from 87-96 all the trucks were basically the same besides the appearance of 92-up and Mass Air.
The only thing specific about your truck's driveshaft is the wheelbase, transmission length, & the fact that it's 4WD. I have a shaft from a truck just like yours, but it had an AOD, which I think is a couple of inches shorter. This shaft is 37 1/8" between the CENTERS of the U-joint caps and has no slip joint in it.
I don't think it can be rebuilt... my U joint closest to the rear differential was bad and when I was going up a hill U joint just busted itself through the end cap and part of the yoke. It sucked. I'm using the driveshaft still (and driving slowwww) but the yoke isn't totally covering the end cap of the u joint, probably just a bit more than where it locks into place.
