you can try this, not sure how far it goes back though, if not you can request a build sheet direct from ford

use this link, except take out the 1FMFK16558LA76512 at the end, and put in the VIN you want info on

I think you can also tell by the number of tubes in the tranny cooler. There was a thread here that had that information in it. 8 tubes vs 12 maybe? I dunno, it was a while ago. If you use the search function it may show up.

The towing pkg comes with a heavy duty tranny cooler, class 4 hitch that bolts to the frame, 7 pin trailer wiring harness on the hitch, limited slip differential, self leveling airbags, heavy duty blinker relay, and a under dash harness for electric brake activators.

It does not include LSD or LLS (airbags). Those were both a la carte options. It also has a HD radiator.

Dead giveaway is usually the 7 pin trailer plug in the back. Also if you have 3.73 gears you have the tow package. That gear option is H6 on the door sticker IIRC but I could be totally wrong as far as that code goes. I know mine has it and mine has the coils springs. Airbags were just an added feature you could get if you wanted.

3.73s do not mean you have towing, it was optional.

This is true.I came across that thread a few days ago reading
up on our new to us 04 Expy. if you count your cooler rows as
alwaysfords mentioned, you will know for sure. The trans cooler
is on the passenger side, and the PS cooler is on the drivers.

I Cant recall the title of that thread, but it was very informative.

You might look in the original packet that holds the owners manual and see if the detailed window sticker was ever put in there as many do. It will clearly state on the original sticker, the towing pkg option.

In the absents of that sticker, this site allows two free queries per day. Just enter your VIN and it will return many details, including axle weights, tire sizes, tow packages, just to name a few.

All anyone needs to do is kneel down a bit and look through
the lower grille for visual confirmation of what we each have.
No need for stickers, manuals...just trust your eyes on this.
It's not hard to spot the cooler, quite simple actually...IMO

That's not always possible. Navigators have a shield that blocks the view you're describing. Then of course there are people that might not be able to kneel down as you suggest, due to some physical issues or age.
