2004 Excursion 6.0 psd. Battery light came on intermittently last couple of weeks. Left my interior light on overnight and both batteries wentt dead. Jump started, let run for 30 minutes then started a 3 hour road trip. About two hours in Engine, ABS and Battery light all came on. radio died, wipers died, then finally vehicle died. Towed home and today had the alternator and both batteries checked and they checked out good. Charged batteries and truck started and now battery light, ABS, Engine, and Fuel light are all on. Any suggestions?
Just reinstalled the fully charged batteries and started right up. All of the warning lights are extinguished now. Drove about ten miles and the battery light did flicker on and off a couple of times.
Yup sounds like the Alt. on it's last leg.
Mine just did the same thing. The battery light came on while I was driving and I whatched my volt meter slowly decrease while trying to get home.
Replaced the Alt. and no more issues.
I'm having exactly the same problem with my 05 Excursion. I had the battery light come on intermittently a few times in the last few weeks, then Saturday while we were out everything started shutting down; lost power windows, air conditioning, all gauges, and barely made it home.
I pulled the batteries (new in November) and had them checked at two shops and they came up fine. I pulled the alternator off and had it checked at O'Reilly's too, and it tested fine. Not sure what else to try, and I'm getting tired of the guys at the auto parts shop saying "that's strange."
Technically, you can take the batteries out after the vehicle is started. The way I test the alt it to start the vehicle and then disconnect the battery. if it shuts off the alt is not putting out (like one of my old girlfriends). Ditch the bitch and make the switch, then replace the alternator. :-)

Same issue here as well. In fact, the wife and I placed a new HD alternator that I carried around in the back, expecting this issue. the new alternator died on us in less than 100 miles. It was warrantied, but I have not picked up the rig yet to test it.
It absolutely IS your alternator. A lot of these parts stores do not have the right equip to test your alternator properly. It Is BAD. Change it out and breathe easy. Save yourself all the aggravation!
Okay, after a few more days of futzing around and not finding anything else wrong I'm going to bite the bullet and get a new alternator. I'm looking at the DC Power 185 amp (If I'm replacing, might as well upgrade).

Wish I knew of DC Engineering before I took the plunge on an HD alternator. Those look like a really solid choice.
