ford three speed identity

have been given a ford toploader 3 speed with id tag reading RAT-G2.Is this out of a truck and would it suffice behind my 390? Looks just like the one thats in it now. Also is there another name for this trans? Nobody understands a ford 3 speed. Is it a borg warner, tremac etc? I need to replace some seals in it but autozone specialist dont list a ford 3 speed. They keep calling it a t85. This may be a job for number dummy. Sic em boy.

This is what I found......

RAT-G Engine: 300-1V or 360 2V Model: F100 114” WB (Slip Yoke)

RAT-H Engine: 300-1V or 360 2V Model:F100/250 131” WB (FixedYoke)



Both of these trans have......1st 2.99 2nd1.75 3rd1.00 Reverse3.17


This is for the 390.......

RAT-V 390-2V MODEL: F100 114” WB(SlipYoke)
RAT-W 390-2V MODEL: F100 131” WB (Fixed Yoke)
RAT-AF 390-2V MODEL: F250 131” WB (Fixed Yoke)

1st 2nd 3rd reverse
2.42 1.61 1.00 2.33

The 3-speed was also available as the Borg Warner T-85 overdrive with a 2 speed planetary gear drive attached to the rear of the transmission.

I appreciate that.What do you think about it behind a 390. The slip yoke is what i need. wonder why the 390 and 360 is different?

My best guess is the power curve of the different engines. The 390 had about 50 more HP than the 360. All these trans have a final drive of 1.00 so I don't think you will have a problem running it behind your 390. If I am wrong...someone will chime in and set me straight.

yeah. it may even suit my 390 better with the lower gear ratio.idk. i just hope the bearings are beefier enough to hold up. im not thinking it will be a problem.
