headlights go out

The headlights on my stock 51 just went out then came back on. I heard a click that came from the switch when they came back on. It still has the 6 volt system. BAD switch maybe ?

I would rather think it is a bad ground or bad connection.

What kind of wiring system do you have...the click sounds almost like a circuit breaker but that's unlikely unless it's an aftermarket system.

These trucks DO have circuit breakers instead of fuses as stock.

Could be any of the suggestions above or even a bad dimmer switch as all the electric goes thru it.

There must be a short in the wiring, tripping the circuit breaker. I agree the dimmer is a likely culprit.

Had same problem with my 52 Panel. Changed out dimmer and works fine now without problems.

Looking at the 51 schematic there is a black with orange tracer wire coming off your light switch that leeds to your breaker then down to dimmer switch if you need a point to start tracing. I agree probable cause in dimmer switch, if it happens again you can hit the dimmer switch to see if its on the high or low switch circuit or both. do you have a schmatic?
