I am trying to buy a 1991 e150. 6 years ago at 119,000 the 302 was replaced. around 100,000 miles the tranny was rebuilt, the van has 151,000 on it and has not been driven the last 4 years, has been garaged all but the last 2 years. The oil smelled of bad gas and was over full, the engine had no fire. I replaced the wires, plugs, cap and rotor and had fire, also did a oil change. Checked compression and had between 180 to 185 on all holes! Now the motor starts right up, but runs out of fuel after a few minutes. Let it set 30 minutes it will do the same thing. I have no fuel pressure gauge to check the rail, I can hear the high pressure pump working. It is a dual tank van, each tank has 2 lines going into a canister, 4 lines in then 2 out to a high pressure pump, then to a filter on into the motor. I unhooked all 4 lines going into the canister and turned the key on. No fuel comes out with the switch on either front or rear, I also cannot hear the pumps in either tank. The tank switch is a six pole toggle switch. The center pole is a 12 volt pole that makes continuity to the left or right of it depending where you have the switch, but no continuity with anything else. The other center pole make continuity simultaneous left and right as the 12 volt pole does (maybe a ground?) Each tank has 4 wires going to it. With a test light one wire will blink in perfect order. With the switch on the front tank one wire on the front tank will blink and the back tank does nothing and vise-verse. Also the owner said when the van started to have trouble the fuel gauge quite working. I can't believe both pumps went bad at the same time, I am missing something, maybe a relay? The only fuse block I can find is by the brake pedal with no cover. I also do not have the owners manual. The 4 line into 2 line canister does not have any wires, perhaps it has check ***** in it? I can buy this Rust free van with above average interior for 500 dollars, I want to get it running first, or know how much it is going to cost me to get it fixed. Thank you to whom ever replies, I am in over my head with this. I am sure the low pressure pumps in the tanks are not working, but what is up with the blinking test light? Thanks
I disconnected the six pole switch, ran a 12 volt wire with a in line fuse. Jumpered the other side like the switch was doing. Van ran for 10 minutes, I think the fuel filter clogged, real bad gas!! going to unhook the fuel lines before the high pressure pump to see if the pumps in the tank are working. Still cannot find the distribution block to put in the new fuel relay HELP!!!!!!!!!!!! did find what I think was the switch that kills the fuel in a accident on the passengers side by the kick panel. I am about to give up and go look at a ch--- van. ANY ideas anyone???????????????????????????????????????????? ???????
