can someone tell me if there is an adjustment on the brake pedal or something that turns the cruise off when the brake is tapped/applied?
Today when on cruise I would apply pressure to the brakes and the cruise remained on unless I did an almost complete brake application. It used to be just to tap it and it would disengage.
Checked the brake lights and they are ok so that is why I am thinking there is a switch somewhere that may be out of adjustment.
There is a switch on the brake pedal, called the Brake Pedal Position switch. It is actually two switches in one, one switch activates the brake lights, the other switch informs the PCM that you are pressing the brakes. The second switch is likely failing.
There is also a switch on the brake master cylinder called the Brake Pressure Switch. If the BPS is activated it will disengage the cruise control also. It is a backup to the BPP switch. But it takes much more brake pressure to activate the pressure switch than it does the position switch.
When my BPP switch failed, it did exactly what you are describing. It is not an expensive part, but it is difficult to get to.
