Okay, experts. I need help. I have a 2004 F150 Heritage, dedicated CNG. This is basically the 2003 model, but it is a 2004. It is a regular cab. I would like to swap the cab from an extendedcab or crew cab onto this frame. The reason is that the car is certified solo carpool lane access, but I would much rather have the 2003-2004 extended or crew cab. If there is another alternative that will still result in the truck being titled as a CNG car in California, I am also open to options. Thanks for any suggestions/cost estimates. I will NOT be attempting this myself.
you can convert a gas motor to cng. there are kits out there to do it. i did one in high school 15 years ago. and i believe that converting the motor would be easier and cheaper than pulling and swapping bodies on the one frame
I would love to do that and I hear you loud and clear, but I live in California and you can't just install an aftermarket kit becuase of our special emissions rules set forth by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). I am just trying to make the best of a tough situation.
There are different wheel bases and mounting flanges for the cab and body mounts. I don't believe you can rebody a standard cab into a extended cab. Your frame will be missing the flanges to mount the bed on. On extended cab bodies, there is 6 bolts that hold the cab to the frame. 4 bolts on a regular cab.
