I was hopeing to find out what years step side beds are the same I have a 1978 f100 and am going to start looking for a box. So I wanted to know what years ae the same so I have hopfully better chance. Thank you
If I am deducing PNs from the NPD catalog correctly, the bedsides and fenders were the same from 53-79. The head panel, crossmembers, and the tailgates varied from series to series.
Stick with Dentsides to be for sure but it looks like one can be pieced together if that's what it takes.
The flaresides changed after 72 , 73-79 are 4 inches wider , fenders same 53-79 , side panels had mini tubs like mine and flat bed rails , some had 45 dagree bed rails . you will also notice the rear fenders are 3 inches higher than the front when looking from the side which makes it look higher in the back , the fleetsides are even from the side , not sure why ford did this but I plan on lowering my rear fenders 3 inches to match the front .
I too have a 78 Stepside and the years that are identical for swapig purposes is 73-79, earlier years vary in the bed as far as bed mounts fender flares and bed board screw locations. If you are looking to use a wood bed like mine it really matters and you have to be suer you have the right hight cross members and then the right bed mount block set. Good luck with the hunt. You ca always check LMC Trucks catalog or one of the others out there for parts if you can't find a bed work using.
Thank you all it is pretty much just the fenders and steps that need replaceing and i was thinking a difrent bed might be easier way to go sinse i do not know anything bout body work
