Hi Guys,
I need to pick a paint color soon for my 1950 F1 that's slowly coming back to life. I know I'll catch some grief but I saw the attached pic when I was looking for color ideas on-line. I know it's a chevy but I liked the color - Now my question is how do I find out exactly what color this is?
Or do I just tell the paint guy to get it close? Separately I found this pic in some random place - any hints on what year truck this is & how to track it down on-line to see color specs. Thanks guys
Hi Shalene,
I looked up the Portland guy's website - hoping to find the chevy on their site somewhere but no luck - I'm not even sure it's their truck - it appears they are in neighboring booth at some car show. Hmmmm....
You might want to take the picture into a PPG retailer or refiniser to help find a very close match. en - Refinish provides a search by zip codes. Remember you can also make slight changes by selecting either a light or dark undercoat.
It is a nice color and where you obtain your inspiration does not matter.
I'm not even ready to begin selecting paint. Wallet is currently telling me that I need to work on cleaning and organizing what parts I currently have removed from the truck.
Thanks KJ,
It's been over a year in total demolition mode - our cab was pretty far gone - took a long time to get the cab corners & bracing replaced - the body work is about complete. Next step is wiring - but want to prep & paint it.... I may take your advice & bring them the pic to get it matched up - doesn't have to be perfect - it's a 60 year old farm truck.
The truck is 41 or 46 - only a few war years trucks were sold to the public. The waterfall grill is the giveaway. In 47 Chev started the new model line that went thru 54.
Nice color. I would go to an autobody shop or paint shop and try to track it down there.
I don't doubt it's a House of Kolor paint job, but it's very close to a Glasurit color used on Porsches, I believe it's called Ice Blue Metallic. BMW has used it too. Glasurit is a German OEM paint supplier. Not the best pics but all I could find offhand. (Keep in mind these cars probably have 15 - 20 yrs old paint)
Thanks Guys,
This color thing is hard - a lot of what we do to our trucks is hidden down under but the paint choice is up there on display. I was headed toward a darker blue but then the Texas summer arrived & reminded me why we need to go with light reflective colors - if possible. I was thinking this light metallic blue was a lot like the old corvettes - late 50's early 60's.
