shock removal

my Iron Bull bumpers are coated with line-x..so i thought it would be good to do my rocker panles and finder flairs...Got my truck back today and they got the line -x on my shocks (and a lot of other things i have to live with)...i want to pull my shocks and repaint them..i am sure getting them off is easy, what about putting them back on?? mostly, how hard are they to compress???

Depends on the brand of shock and how worn out they are. If nothing else, get you a small floor jack and a pry bar. Install the top of the shock first, then jack up the bottom to compress it. Use the pry bar to raise the bottom up off the jack enough to get the bolt hole lined up and you're good.

Normal shocks are easy to compress by hand.. you should not have a problem..

You could somehow compress those shocks and reband or tie some sort of string around the shock to keep them compressed and do what Chris recommended, and I did for that matter, hook the top hole up and cut the band or string and have the bolt ready as the shock comes down. Might be tough with the string but what the heck.
