Are you sure the cluster is out of a 96, and not a 94 or 95?

I'm not sure what part numbers coincide with what years. I do know that since you have a 96, you need a 96 cluster.

The compatible years are 92-93, 94-95, and 96. 94-95 has and air bag so its different than 92-93, and 96 is OBDII so it is also different.

The connectors are positioned slightly different on tach and non tach clusters. I think the are both verticle on non tach and one is horizontal on tach clusters. They still plug in though. It should be a plug and play swap.

Here is a tip. So that you don't have to take it all back apart soon, replace all the 194 bulbs and be carefull not to damage the circuit board on the back.

from what i understand the 97 f250-f350 will also work & this wire dia shows that the plugs are wired the same for gas & diesel but dont know if the boards are the same i also think the diesel clulster has diesel written by the gas gauge
