Did not even think of this when I just picked up my 2010 F-250
because my other 250 I had for many years had a beefier receiver and I hauled 7000 lbs plus with it on a daily bases hauling bread and cookies.
Now my new to me 2010 is rated for 600 lbs and 6000 lbs without having a WD system on.
What comes to my point, even though I am out of hauling stuff for a living on a daily bases, I do have a 7000lb rated trailer and when I do use it, it will be maxed out a few time a year. and really don't want to mess with the WD system, will my 6000 lb reciever do the trick or should I spend the $200 and get a beefier receiver put on. like a
1000 TW 10000 GTW/
1200 WDTW 12000 WDGTW
I would suggest that you use the WD setup for either of those hitches....for safety sakes if no other! You are pushing or exceeding the limit and you will have MUCH more stability in either case!

You are absolutely right keep the receiver I have on, and just get a WD never used one But I am sure once I use it a couple times sure it will get easy,
anyways next trip with the trailer is moving the kids car and some furniture to Grad school in Nashville and will be going though the mountains.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I myself would up the hitch.....
Wondering why Ford does not put the more heavier GW receiver on the trucks
for needing a Weight distributing to pull bigger loads, I just don't see many Weight distributing hitches out on the road.
Your existing receiver will handle the trucks max tow rating easily when properly equipped with a WD hitch. You will also be surprised at the difference in the ride when using the WD, no more feeling like you are being bounced down the road by the trailer. It will be some of the best money spent for towing.
I just noticed that the other day on my truck too.
The receiver says 600lb tounge weight and 6000lb trailer weight max.
I'm pretty sure I was way beyond that pulling a 28ft enclosed trailer loaded up.
I just though it was odd that Ford would put a receiver on there that wasn't able to match the trucks capabilities.
