swap out
swap out
Ok so I have a 94 f150 with 198,xxx miles on it and e4od I was thinking time for a newer motor and was thinking of putting in a 302 Ho from a 2000 explorer is that all the same as my 94 with mas air will it just be a swap out and all wires and sensors hook right up to truck with out jerry riging anything crazy
The Explorer motor is not a HO.. even though it technically has more output potential than the actual HO found in Mustangs. That aside all 5.0's are essentially the same on the outside so you can swap this motor into your truck, but you can't use any wiring from the Explorer and if you want plug and play simplicity you can't use the Explorer intake or accessories. Disconnect all the wiring on your motor, swap over the complete intake system, mount the truck accessory brackets, and bolt on the truck flexplate and the motor will drop right in where the original was. You'll probably want to use the Explorer exhaust manifolds however as this motor will have GT40p heads on it that have a radical plug angle that is incompatable with most headers.
The only parts in the Explorer motor that aren't exactly what is in your '94 truck motor are the heads, abd they are better than the common E7TE castings so you should be able to notice a bit more pep. Add 1.7 roller rockers to poke the valves open a bit more and increase airflow through the motor even further, and if you haven't done so already the more of the stock exhaust system you can get rid of the more power it'll make. The truck intake is every bit as good as the Explorer.. actually a little better all stock(unported) with a better flowing lower section and more throttlebody area.
