Seatbelt Replacement

Where can i purchase seatbelt replacements for my 1978 F150? I've searched and can only find lap belt replacements. Will any other seatbelts from another year truck work? Mine are starting to deteriorate and i need to get some replacements. Any info would be great.

By your statement above I assume you mean the shoulder belt, right?

Try these guys for everything seatbelt related: Ssnake Oyl Products

Yeah, strange name.

I was fortunate enough to find a set on eBay; but they do get pricey, and they can take some time to come by. If I were to do it all over again, I would have sent my original seat belts to a place like HIO mentioned. I think I would rather have newly refurbished seat belts, instead of original seat belts that were just better taken care of than mine.

Juliano's, nice stuff. This is kinda like your brakes...using shortcuts or ignoring the problem could have serious consequences.

They don't have to be restored or original. Just looking to replace the stock ones as their not in the best condition.

I also bit the bullet and spent about a hundred and got a used shoulder set on ebay. They work great, they fit right. Ive been happy I did that. Mines not a show truck so the color didnt need to match and that helped.

Man I wish I knew they went for that. I just sold a set (uppers, lowers and center) for $25. Granted they were faded black, but worked.

I've got a good, black, non faded set here I've been hanging onto. Maybe they'll go one eBay to get some project cash...

$100 is a really good deal for eBay; at the time I was looking, the full set would go for close to $200, which is about what I paid.

The issue with mine is that they are not long enough to work as shoulder harnesses. I am thinking about just taking out the shoulder kits and going with a lap belt system from LMC...

I bought mine at the height of the recession. I dont know what they bring now. lap belts should be a lot cheaper.

You can buy extensions to attach to the end of the belt, where it attaches to the floor behind the seat, or just use a strong chain. Use strong bolts to attach it. Either way will make the seat belt longer.

Depending on the state your living in, if your cab has the attachment for the shoulder harness and you put in lap belts, you could get a ticket for not having required safety equipment, or some other silly law.

If I replaced the shoulder belts I would remove them completely so you would not even be aware they were there...

Yes, but the mounting location would still be there. (The mounting spot near your left shoulder). If the officer wants to be fussy he can. In an accident report he probably would be if there was an injury, and a injury lawyer surely would be.

It would be like removing your signal lights in a vehicle that had them originally.

I just wanted you to know that. Like I said, silly laws.

Its fine, but an officer is not going to worry about something like that, also on any custom hotrod out there they make their own choices on Seatbelt mounting and I've never heard of someone getting blasted in a case like that. My truck is going to see about 16 miles a week if that, so all I really want is something to keep me from going through the windshield...

Try Racing Accessories for Drag and More, Seatbelts & Tiedowns! They list shoulder belts for our trucks.
If you have shoulder belts you should replace them if you can get them. Don't cheap out and pull out the shoulder belt or bet your life on something from a wrecking yard .

Well i don't want to replace with lap belts because that's not what I have now. Compressorguy, which ones would work with my truck? I'm looking at the 3 point retractable belts, but they don't look anything like what's in the truck. Anyone else have any other options? Do any of the seat belts from other f150's work? If so which years?
