Changed oil

I just changed the oil and filter on my 6.0 and the old filter was a Hastings it wasn't in the the cap like the motor craft filter is supposed to be , do you think it matters, and is the hastings filter better. I put the powerstroke oil in it,15-40.

Like he said only motorcraft and no others ,they will eventually do damage to your motor.

Oil

Nice truck Jim , the other thing I was reading was the 14 qrt refill so I did it , seems good , I had a small drip on the bell , it seems to have gotten less wet, maybe wishful thinking ,

Next will be fuel filters this weekend, thanks for the advise on the oil filters how about the fuel, filters,

thanks bud,you can look in the tech folder and probably track your drip. nothing but motorcraft. for everything.

Filters..fuel or oil need to be either Motorcraft, Navistar (International) or Racor branded; all three are made by Racor. 14 qts seems low...mine takes 15 to get it up to the top end of the cross-hatches.

Motorcraft oil filter: FL-2016
Motorcraft fuel filter: FD-4616

Navistar oil filter: 1840752C91
Navistar fuel filter: 1847170C93 (I think there's an update & new number...all the ones on my shelf have this old p/n)

Racor oil filter: PFL-2016
Racor fuel filter: PFF-4616

You can also use a Fram oil filter: CH9549...but you have to make sure it's got the felt ring on the bottom, the patent numbers on the top and the top cap is molded on the filter media (pleats)...and not a snap-on. Any filter that comes with a new oil filter housing cap...is the wrong filter.

Before my bulletproof it took 13.5 qts to get mine into the middle of the crosshatches on the dipstick since it was new.
