Reason: forgot important item
The first thing I would do is take the VIN to the service department and ask for a full oasis report. If you don't ask for a full report they will only give you one that dates back 6 months to a year.
The Oasis report will allow you to see a history of problems that particular truck has had in the past as well as inform you if certain updates have been performed. One thing to look at since the truck is an 05 is if the STC fitting for the HPO pump has been replaced.
Also, find a scanner tool to check ECT vs EOT temps on every truck you look at.
Edge Insight or a Scangauge II work great.
Scangauge II = $160
Edge Insight = $380 and up.
Then you will have most gauges for the truck you end up buying.
There have been reports that folks have done this and found numerous trucks with more than a 15* spread between ECT & EOT. You can use this info to get the oil cooler changed before purchase, or a way to knock down the price of the truck. (Even if you knock the price down, you will still need to fix the issue)
