fuel pump problems

i'm new here and i'm having fuel pump issue's. does anyone have the wiring diagram for the pump? it's an 87 2.9v6. i know there are 4 wires hooked to it, 1 would be a ground, 1 for the gauge, so are the other 2 power? i used a test light and got 1 to light up and pulsate, but don't know which one it goes to. also can i do away with the stupid shut off switch on the floor board? thanks in advance for any and all help:

i just checked that switch with a test light and there's no power on either wire.

Hey buddy,

I do believe that the following wiring diagram is for an '87 Ranger 2.9l V-6:

ok for some reason the fuel pump only works when you crank it over or just bump the starter. but it wont come on when you first turn the key to the on position. then i tried starting it and when i let off the key the starter and fuel pump kept going! WTH is going on here???

blueoval dude is coorectTurn the key to start and 12 volts flows to the starter relay (wire with the rubber boot) the relay closes & connects voltage to the starter. Remove the wire with the rubber boot. If it stops cranking non stop the ignition switch is probably shorted out.BTW The wiring diagram from blue oval dude is correct
