They do not. There are some anti-theft devices out there for tailgates. I would advise getting one.

If someone is going to punch the lock to steal the gate, you have more serious problems. Just let your insurance handle that one, or move somewhere else. Besides, if the gate had a serial number and someone stole it, do you think you would actually get it back? It would be gone. Nothing is theft proof. If someone wants it bad enough, it is gone.

You can take off the inside access panel and scribe your name or an ID number inside the tailgate if you want.

Like said above keep tailgate locked.

Also putting a SS hose clamp on the side hinge where it lifts out will slow down a scumbag.

There are also cables out there that bolt on instead of clipping on so you would have to unbolt latch stops to take tailgate off.

You make it really easy to loosen that clamp.

I took a hand-grinder and "V'd" out the screwdriver slot, then oriented the clamp so that it's only accessible with the gate half-way down, and from the under-side.

That is actually just a picture I found online since I don't have a picture of mine handy. I actually have mine set up more like yours and I searched until I found a hose clamp with just a hex head and no screw driver slot in the bolt.

Since the tailgate on this truck locks and I live in a very low crime area I'm not that worried about this tailgate walking away. Plus you have to understand where I live if they tried to sell it locally I would see ad and if they tried to ship it out of town it would be very hard to do.
