I have an Edelbrock #1405 (650 CFM, manual choke) carb that I'd like to install on my '68 F250 (428 PI engine, Edelbrock Performer manifold, C6 trans). The car is stored out of state at the moment so I can't do a test fit. My question is if a Ford throttle/kickdown adapter is required. The Edelbrock website lists one for "Ford, 1968 and up with a cable throttle control", however my truck has a rod linkage to the carb. If the adapter is needed, I'll order it.
On my '67, the PO installed an Edelbrock. The original carbs used a rod for the kick-down, and the PO said I would need to get a cable for the Edelbrock. I am assuming I will need an adapter as well, but I do not know this for a fact yet. Also, I have the 352, not the 428. Dunno if this helps any, so take it for what it's worth. I think the adapters are pretty cheap, though.

Thanks for the info Joseph. I believe the 352 & 428 are pretty much the same other than displacement. Is your truck now running with the Edelbrock? If so, how does it perform?......I assume that the kickdown feature is not functioning? The adapter is listed on the Edelbrock site for around $30, I'll buy one if needed. I bought this carb at a garage sale and the woman who was selling it said all she knew about it was that her ex-husband "had it on a Mustang", so maybe it has the correct throttle linkage....I'll find out when I try to install it!
The truck's running, but it needs new spark plug wires, so it's not running very well. I'm hoping to have some fix-it time this weekend. Change the fluids, blah blah blah. I was planning on rebuilding the stock carb, but now I think that if I get the kickdown cable installed, I'll keep the Edelbrock. I'll let you know how I fare.
