airbag code question
I just bought a 96 Ranger yesterday, with a rebuilt salvage title.
The airbag light is flashing code 33. Can anyone tell me what that code means?
I haven't noticed anything unusual about the vehicle except that yesterday and this morning (in a light rain) the wipers seemed to come on by themselves for a few seconds and then go back off. I don't THINK this vehicle has anything like the "rain sensors" that would trigger automatic operation of the wipers! The owner's manual is long gone so I am at a loss.
Any ideas?

The code 33 is listed in my 2000 manual as high resistance in the passengers side air bag curcuit. I'm not sure if that is correct for a 96 since I don't believe you have a passengers side bag. I will have to look in my 96 manual tomorrow. If you are not experience with working on an air bag system I would recommend letting a pro do the repair. When the light is flashing the system is disabled.
Your wipers sound like they have a common problem that is caused by the multifunction switch.

I have already found a wealth of information by using this site. It is really a great resource.
You are right, there is no passenger side airbag on my 96.
I was thinking that the wiper problem might be related to the airbag code if a common problem in the steering column existed, but from your comment it sounds like that is not the case?
I will be interested to see what code 33 means...I looked all over the site and nobody else has ever reported a problem with that code on any year, much less a 96.
