Condensor?

A friend of mine was helping me out with some Carb problems and he told me that the wire from my condensor on the side of my coil was missing and could cause firing problems which was what was going on with my truck. Question is.....Do I need this hooked up? I have a 351m in a 77 f150. When I ran the 2 bbl carb it wasn't a problem. I dont know much about this or if its even called the condensor lol. If your looking at the coil its mounted on the bracket on the right side. small cylinder looking part with a wire comming out the front that has been cut off. Thanks for the help.

if you have a points ign then yes you need it its on the side of the dist. But on your truck (77) you should have electronic ign. so that little thing beside the coil is just a noise suppressor, no you don't need it. they do look the same.

kingford is right, in your case (with electronic ignition), the only condensor you'll have is the ignition noise suppression capacitor. It's not related to firing the engine. Without it, however, you can pick up your RPMs on the radio. It's not as much of an issue with modern head units, which tend to have better supply filtering than the originals.
