suspension question NOT 4x4
I'd like to only do it once.
Only towing done isa 24 foot boat on weekends and that's not an issue now.
Lately it's like driving a sponge (had to buy replacement tires on vacation and got screwed into sumitomo-supposed-to-be-E-rated-tires)
Tires wearing on the inside and choppy, I presumed it's springs that have lead to camber in. Shocks are only 1 yr old (10K miles) Monroe gas charged.
Wouldn't mind stiffer springs, but gotta keep wifey's ride kinda smooth too. Mostly city or highway roadtrips with the family. I know there is a 2wd EX PSD suspensuion guy out there.
I have 2001 XLT 2WD PSD. When I bought it used, it had Bilsteins. I changed them out about a year ago for the Monroes, also.
You may want to look into the RAS for the rear. It really helped firm up the ride, but it is not harsh.
I had Yokohama Geolandar HTs on it for ~ 50,000 miles; no complaints at all. Changed to Pirelli Scorpion AT earlier. Like you, mostly highway miles.... Tires are doing me fine. No snow problems here in SoCal.
Beyond that, not much help for you. Good luck!!
I'm not sure if 2WD Excursions were ever available with stock Anti-roll bars so you might want to look into that as well. A hellwig bar, a 30mm bar from a Super Duty, or even a bar from a stock 4WD Excursion should be a nice addition.
If you're going to consider an RAS, you might want to give the LandYot Radius Rods a look as well. Weigh your options and determine which fits your needs best.
If you really want a new suspension, get the parts for a 2011 2WD Super Duty or even an 08-10 Super Duty ...(Front coils, new rear shackles, and rear springs). The rear leafs are 8 inches longer and will greatly improve the suspension. This thread has more info on this: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...onversion.html
Perhaps you can even get custom made springs from these guys: Deaver Suspension
Go over all your options and pick and choose what you need. You can combine any of what I mentioned together to create exactly what you want.
Sounds like RAS will make the rear better too, How long a project is that? Any recommednations on place to get a good deal?
