i was looking at a 400m and the owner said its knocking but idk what it would take to fix it could it just be a bent push rod or....... any suggestions would be appreciated
If you're gonna buy a used engine with a known knock, my suggestion would be to do a complete rebuild on it anyways. If it's got a knock, what else is going wrong with it? That's what you have to ask yourself when buying something like that.
It was in a 4x4 and he said he got stuck and ever since it has a knock I'm thinking bent pushrod but I don't know if that causes knocking or a bad valve
With an unknown knock, I would consider the engine to sell for junk price only. As said before expect a total rebuild, possibly boring the cylinders, new pistons, cam, possible crank work, or placement. When your done you want a piece of mind knowing your hard earned money was well spent, and everything is in order, and ready to provide you with a long life of service you will expect, and good luck with your project!
A very high percentage of old M's lose oil pressure and knock.Too heavy to toss over the side of a boat...so unless your looking to pay for a total rebuild including machine work---pass on it.
