Unhappy normal condition to iratic behavior

Hi everyone.....I'm new here. I have reviewed some archives. My 1988 BroncoII automatic 4x4 started this problem two years ago. At that time, the problem occassionally occurred ONLY when I drove on the highway (driving over a mountain- routine) from 6,000 feet to 7,ooo feet. Black smoke, sputtering, unless I fully put my foot into the gas. Coasting downhill, cruising, idle, no problems..........So, I checked for codes (none) replaced distributor, ignition coil, O2 sensors, map sensor, IAS, Cap/rotor, spark plugs. IN the past 3 months it's gotten pretty bad. Now it will do it at random more often. Coasting, at a stop sign (most of the time now), climbing that same mountain. I have never been stranded though. I took a trip to Arizona last august. I've been waiting to see if it will die (to help me diagnose------hehehe). I'm just at my wits end. During my Arizona trip I did look at the fuel pressure hose, but it was dry on the inside. I drive this truck almost every day. 148 k miles on it.

even tho the hose was dry your fuel pressure regulator could still be causing problems, could even be a bad fuel pump.
