Downpipe question

I'm going to be ordering my exhaust later on tonight when my paycheck posts, I've got a question tho. I've heard that getting the new downpipe in can be a bit of a PITA. Is this true and would doing something like looping a piece of welding wire around the stocker and using that to pull the aftermarket one up make installation any easier?

If you have an extra set of hands its pretty easy, if you have to maneuver the pipe by your self, it can get tricky and be a little difficult, but its not bad at all really. Which system you going with?

The MBRP S6200P, I searched for it on google, found it on Amazon for >300$ shipped and had a big bag of change in my room I've been saving for a while and am getting it for less than 250 shipped

Sounds like a good score you found there. Wish i would have found something like that when i did mine. I didnt have much trouble getting the new pipe installed, for me it was a PITA to get the old one out. Had to use a saw to get it out after wrestling with it for way too long. New one went it in no problem for me. But i had a diamond eye, not mbrp.

I watched the video from powerstrokehelp and he said to cut it just above the bend and that's how i planned on getting it out. I remember reading somewhere that you have to loosen the tranny crossmember is that true or can it be left alone?

For mine i did not have to loosen the crossmember, but again, different brands, cant imagine all that much of a difference though.

I was going to assume that the video was because the truck they were installing it on was a 4x4, but I see from your sig pic that yours is a 4x4 so i'm assuming that's just extra work they want you to do

just be patient. there is a sweet spot where the pipe will just fall out. It takes a while to find it but its there.

I installed my downpipe on my MBRP system by myself. A little patience and a block of wood on the crossmember held in place by some tie-wraps allowed it to stay still while I aligned it to the turbo. It took about 15 minutes to get it installed. I didn't touch the crossmember bolts. Total install in my driveway of the entire 4" system was about 3 hours.

Also, I cut the old downpipe out with a Sawzall with a 6" metal blade right in front of the crossmember bolts. Remember to spray tons of PB Blaster on the downpipe clamp the night before to knock off the rust that may be present.

My friend and I installed My MRBP exhaust in 32 min flat. that's with cutting the old one out. The downpipe was easy no need to cut it or loosen the crossmember.

I installed my new downpipe and MBRP S6200P by myself no problems. It took a while to align it up under the truck then crawl back on top to the turbo but it eventually worked. If I remember right I think I cut the downpipe in front of the transmission crossmember just to make things easy, but I'm sure you could get it out without cutting it.

i was just able to get the stock downpipe out in one piece by removing the heat shield under the cab and taking the the right sway bar link off. also decided to vent in front of the rear tire since i have an extended cab / short bed with a full-sized 20" spare... figured i'd save myself some headaches by not even trying to fit in the over-axle pipe... though it did have a nice 90 degree angle in it, so i cut it out and was able to complete the setup with out having to get any new pipe or hangers (MBRP 4" no muffler kit). you can really hear the turbo whistle now plus there isn't as much engine lug when under 1000 rpm.
