When I got my pushrod guideplate conversion kit, I remember reading something about needing some kind of special head bolts because you cannot access the bolt head with a torque wrench, I cannot remember what kind of bolts that would be, anyone?
Torque the heads before you install the rocker assemblies. I haven't heard of a special bolt. With head bolt torque values at 130-140ftlb, you'll have to get a torque wrench on them.
They say to use the Allen bolts because regular head bolts on the top row will not clear the guideplates for R&R of the heads after the guideplates are installed.
That's fine for the original installation, you can use an Allen head socket with the torque wrench, but how would you torque them down with the guideplates in place if you did have to remove and replace the heads for say a burned valve?
They're also instructing you to use thread locker with a four-hour drying time on the studs. I've never used thread locker on studs, just a lubricant, but that shouldn't hurt anything.
To me, it sounds like once you have the guideplates installed, they're not to be removed for any reason.
What would you suggest I search for? Anything that I tried did not return anything helpful. I just tried napa and they can special order them for 226$, I don't think so.
Hmmm I dont think we have a bolt supply house here, are there any chains of stores? I might be able to go to a town south of here which has a relativley large population (80,000), what would the type of store be to look up in the phone book?
