How to get engine to fire temporary?

Im trying to get my motor tuned in while duing a resto right now. But im trying to get it temporarly started and cant figure out the crappy duraspark system works. What do i all need hook up to make spark. does this duraspark box need to be hooked up? its got 6 wires goin to it. what is all necessary to be hooked up just to get spark? It is a 1977 with a 400. i just got the engine sitting in the frame so the rest of the harness not hooked up.

Don't forget about the neutral safety switch.

According to my book for a blue grommet box, you will need the harness to the starter solenoid for one of the start sequence wires. That one is red with blue stripe and the white wire is the run sequence. Plug the one into the solenoid and power the blue(or white) wire straight to the battery. Jump the solenoid and it should start. This is assuming that you have the harness that goes to the dist and coil hooked up as well. Brown w/yellow stripe, black w/green stripe, and pink w/blue stripe should be going to the dist and green w/yellow should be going to the positive side of the coil.

Well, if you want to jumper some of the wires with short pieces jammed into the slots, have at it. Just make sure that you have the right ones jumped. That is the bad part about magnetic pickups. You have to have another box to interpret that signal and fire the coil.

i've used an hei module to fire up an engine in a parts bronco i got one time (mice had made the factory wiring vanish)

biggest problem was that it was in gear... maybe i should post that in the "things NOT to do in your garage" thread.
