Cup holder mod?

I have read something of this in a different thread. I just can't find it now. Are the cup holders in the dash/center console of the 2003+ different (better) than the units in the Y2K?

Don't know the answer but in my opinion the X has the worst cupholders of any vehicle I've ever owned. Absolutely worthless. Spill my coffee nearly every time I drive it.
If there are some mods out there.......I'd love to know them.

That figures since I have a 2000 model and the cup holders suck!

My center console cup holders are great, My cup holders that pull out from the dash are garbage.

I have seen in other brand vehicles the "flap" on the side of the cup holder has a clicking lever that holds it in place. For smaller cups just keep on clicking, and for the biggest ones click all the way and it releases back to full open position.

Yes, the 01+ MY Excursion had different (read "improved") cupholders for both the center console and the dash mounted cupholders.

I replaced the cup holder in my 2000 Ex with a set for a 2003 Ex. I purchased it from Ford for $15.

I haven't spilled a drink since.

The in dash ones? You got a part number? The one I got came up as $90.

Its the center console cup holder. I don't have a part number. Its been a few years since I bought the 03 style, but I still remember the Ford sales associate being surprised that it was only $15. He said he didn't know Ford sold anything for that cheap.

You won't be disappointed with the newer style cup holder for the center console. It is much deeper than the '00 style.

More like $31.00 today

Visited my Ford dealer today for the 2002 version of the center console cup holders. Going price is $31 and some change.

Plan on installing it Thursday when it arrives from Detroit!

This is the route I went a few years ago. Just takes a few minutes to swap out. But I seem to remember the price was around $20 bucks.

This is why I used the nice console to put ice and a baby keg and then I use my custom made cups for my in dash holders. LOL

Anybody have pics of 01 and up cupholders please? I'm debating whether or not to do this. All the time I have bottles roll right out of the cupholders in my 2000 down between my feet. I prefer to use these still because the flip out ones creak, creak, creak
