I'm a converted Chevy man and I don't think my 2011 F150 FX4 is cold enough. I am getting 46 degrees at highway speeds and outside vtemp is 77. My Chevy always get 38-40 in the same situations. What is eveybody getting? Is this normal?
My '07 5.4 F150 XLT that I traded in for the SD never got really cold either. I never had it looked at but it did bother me, especially on the hottest days. Not sure if something was wrong or that's just the way it is. Not my problem anymore though.
My '99 Windstar on the other hand could chill a beer on a hundred degree day. Go figure.
Just found this. Might be something to consider though it is for older trucks. Might need a different valve set-up but I don't see why it wouldn't work. If I had seen this a few years ago I probably would have tried it on mine.
I know it sucks to think about having to mod a brand new truck's AC but I figured it might end up being your only option.
I have no way of measuring it, but mine was pretty cold today with it being 95* and humid outside. I was comfortable, so I had no complaints.
you should be able to pick up a thermometer at wal mart in the households department. just grab a freezer thermometer with a probe on it. most of them come with a nifty little pocket clip that will clip into your vent with the probe actually down in the vent. should give you a fairly accurate reading. Now if i could only find a sticky thermometer to stick on my side mirror so i know the temp outside.
Thats's what I think. The local dealer said he was getting 46 and that's as good as is gets. I am taking it in Monday to fix the sync and get him to check the freon. I post the results later.
My 97 F150 AC is way colder than my 09. I've taken it in, they ran 1/8 tank of gas thru it and tested it. Said that's the way it is. So I just run in on recirculate all the time.
Don't try and compare older vehicles with R12 refrigerant to a new one with R134 refrigerant. R12 is much colder.
All though they have made improvements in the efficiency of the A/C systems in the 2010 and 2011 trucks.
My 2010 is much better at idle then my 08 or 06 trucks where. But on hot days you still need to leave it on max A/C to keep cool.
I really like cold A/C. Had to get a good one! My last 2 F350's pretty much sucked, but my new '11 F150 is COLD!! Only had 2 other cars (no trucks) that worked this well!
