Looking for a tailgate? Go to places that sell camper shells and/or RV's. Peeps install slide-in campers, some of these require the tailgate to be removed.
There's a RV dealer in Ontario CA that has stacks of tailgates out back, all look like new, because the trucks were new when the campers were installed.
I've looked thru these tailgates, there's nothing prior to 1980.
Tailgates are very hard to find in junkyards for one simple reason: They are EZ to steal. If a yard gets a truck in with a decent tailgate, the 'gate is usually sold within a week.
Oh, and btw: The Styleside tailgate used 1980/82, is not the same as 1983 and later, due to how it is mounted.
Measure the length before buying, the Ranger tailgate looks similar.
It's pretty easy to tell the 1980-1982 Tailgates from the 1983-1986 gates if you look at the side edge where the hardware attaches.
The 1980-1982 gate will have 3 welded in nuts for bolts to hold the latch mechanisim, and support straps on each side, and slots cut into it for the rubber "anti rattle" for the support straps. If buying NOS: The part number is E0TZ-9940700-A
The 1983-1986 gate will have only two welded in nuts and no cut slots for other attachments. If Buying NOS: The Part Number is E3TZ-9940700-B or E5TZ-9940700-B
Does anyone on this thread know where I might be able to find a "Latch and Latch Link" for my 83 F-250? Check that old battered tailgate in the garage.
I have searched the web over and local yards to no avail. I was hoping to post for it in the wanted section but since I am a newby with not enough posts, well you know the routine. If you think you might have one I will post a pic to be sure it is the correct one.
By the way Rock Auto has a tail gate for a decent price right now!
You can't find one in Arizona? That's discouraging, I'm wanting an entire new bed, most likely from the desert southwest.....
Just travel south towards a little town called Center. There's a scrapyard there that has a bunch of that stuff. At least they did. I went there years back and loaded up on sheet metal parts. Good prices too.
